Multi Level Cap
Program
Designed & Written
by Katie Clarke
Our unique
progressive squad program was developed by head coach Katie
Clarke through her own experience as a swimmer and a coach.
Swimming has fast become one of the most popular sports in the
nation; swimmers such as Ian Thorpe, Matt Welsh and Susie
O'Neill are house hold names and legends in the eyes of aspiring
swimmers.
Young swimmers
usually set themselves high expectations however having smaller
more realistic goals that they can achieve is needed for
swimmers to see and be proud of their own
achievements. 'Reaching smaller goals gives swimmers motivation
to continue in their sport'
We have set small
achievable goals from entry level squads to national age squads.
An emphasis is placed on developing all 4 strokes between the
ages of 7 and 15 while it allows older swimmers to specialise in
two - three strokes. The system is implemented by all our
coaches and its success speaks for itself. Several other clubs
have now adopted the idea to boost their own squad programs.
How it
works, Colors:
Red -
Yellow - Green - Purple - Blue - Black - Bronze - Silver - Gold
Each level has 4 times to achieve, one for each of the
competitive strokes swimmers must achieve all 4 times
before progressing on to the next level. Times must be swam at
an official swim meet or approved training session. Once a
swimmer turns 16 they need only achieve 3 of the 4 times set. It
is important your coach has a copy of your 50m personal best
times so it be sure to regularly forward any results you may
have.
If you would like to see the times you need to achieve for each
level please talk to your coach. Caps are compulsory and are
available for purchase from your coach these must be worn at all
training sessions so coaches can gauge the level of their
swimmers and develop training programs to strengthen particular
areas.

Squad Levels
Our club caters for swimmers from as young as 5 years of age
through to adults. All members are encouraged to participate in
swim meets as well as training and social events to ensure they
gain the most from their overall club and swimming experience.
On our 'training
times and venues page' page is
a detailed list of our current training schedule including the
recommended minimum commitment required for each squad and how
the squad 'fits in' with the overall club structure.
All training runs in conjunction with the school term however
most school holidays we run swim camps, holiday programs or
extra training sessions so swimmers can maintain their fitness
and preparation for upcoming events.
